Three persons were killed when a lorry transporting fish went off the road and smashed into a tree at Aralaganwila at around 5.00am today. Police Media Unit said the incident had occurred at Dimbulagala Junction along the Aralaganwila-Mahiyangana Road.

The lorry had been transporting fish from Tangalle to Polonnaruwa. The driver and the other two occupants in the vehicle were all killed on the spot. The victims, aged 21, 30 and 33 years, are residents of Potuvil, Nakulugama and Matara.

The bodies are lying at the mortuary of the Polonnaruwa Hospital. Aralaganwila Police are investigating.
