The much awaited rugby fixture between Kandy Combined Schools and Colombo Combined Schools will take place at Havelock Park on October 23.
The captain of the Colombo Combined School team has not been selected yet. Those in line to lead are Kevin ‘Kutty’ Dixon who captained St. Peter’s and the Sri Lanka under-19 Seven’s team and Bhanuka Gamage who captained the unbeaten champion Royal team.
Those in line to lead the Kandy Combined Schools team are Trinity captain and number eight Isuru Rangala, St. Anthony’s captain Neuman Dilan and Kingswood captain and Sri Lanka U-19 fly half Reeza Rafaideen.
This encounter will feature the cream of rugby talent in the schools arena. They have the luxury of representing their respective regions as well and bring honour and fame.
The game also provides the opportunity for the players to mix with other players and share the same dressing room, enabling them to showcase their talent at a high level.
They can also earn a place in the Sri Lanka under-20 15-a-side squad in preparation for the Junior Asiad scheduled to take place in Singapore in December.
The coaches for the Kandy Combined Schools team are Nihal ‘Viper’ Gunaratne along with Nalaka Weerakkody and Pradeep Basnayake.
Present Royal College head coach Sanath Martis will be the head coach of the Colombo Schools team with present Science College rugby consultant coach Colin Denish to assist him.
