Chief Ministers of the provinces will be summoned for Cabinet meetings once every two months in order to discuss matters relating to provincial councils, the government said today.

Addressing the weekly Cabinet media briefing, Joint Cabinet Spokesman Minister Gayantha Karunatileka stated President Maithripala Sirisena submitted the proposal at last night’s Cabinet meeting. The proposal was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has also proposed that Parliamentarians appointed as chairpersons of various Parliamentary Committees should also be given the opportunity to attend Cabinet meetings at least once every two months. Such a move would make it easier for issues regarding various ministries to be resolved through discussion, he had reasoned.
