Three women were arrested by police in Dambulla town yesterday (11) for allegedly stealing a gold bangle valued at Rs.99,000 from a jewelry shop in the town.

Police Media Unit said the women had stolen the bangle after coming to the shop on the pretext of looking to buy jewelry. Staff at the shop had reported the theft to the Dambulla police who were able to arrest the suspects.

After questioning the suspects, police were later able to recover the bangle from a gutter where the suspects had thrown it.

The suspects have been revealed to be a mother and her two daughters. They had been staying in Dambulla temporarily and a residents of Katubedda, Moratuwa and Seeduwa. They are due to be produced before the Dambulla Magistrate today.
