Sri Lanka stormed into the Cup quarterfinals with a stunning brand of rugby to thrash Malaysia 40 points (5 goals, 1 try) to nil in their second and final pool match of the ARFU 7’s tournament played at the Racecourse international stadium. At half time Sri Lanka led 19-0.

For the gallant Tuskers Danushka Ranjan (2), Sandun Herath, Fazil Marija, Anuruddha Wilwara and Richard Darmapala (one apiece) scored the tries with Marija making the conversions.

In their first game Sri Lanka gave another dazzling display to rout the Philippines by 38 points to 7 after leading 26-7 at the breather.

Nigel Ratwatte (2), Srinath Sooriabandara, Ranjan, Dulaj Perera and Gayan Weeraratna (one each) scored the tries for the Tuskers. Skipper Marija, Sooriyabandara and Dulaj made the conversions.

In the Cup quarterfinals Sri Lanka will play Korea who suffered a shock 14-21 defeat at the hands of gutsy Thailand.

The Sri Lankan women’s team lost both their opening games to Kazakhstan 10-17 and China 0-45, before getting their act together in the last match by beating Singapore by 28 points to10.
