Senior Vice President of the Sri Lanka Hockey Federation Perumal Wishwanathan has brought honour to the country when he was appointed to the coaching, development and education committee of the Asian Hockey Federation for a three year term at the AHF Congress held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia recently.
Wishwanatha is a popular figure in the field of hockey and has done a tremendous amount of work to develop hockey in the country. His services has been invaluable and is present at all tournaments held even in the outstations.
A feather was added to his cap when he played a key role in promoting and developing hockey in schools in the Kalutara District. The schools have taken to the game seriously and they have even surprised better known school in hockey.
Wishwanathan was also a senior Vice President of the Nationalised Services Hockey Association and has done much to popularise hockey at the Transports Board and the Nationalised Services HA. He has also done a lot to popularise the game in Jaffna District.
Among his qualifications in sports administration are successful completion of the International Hockey Federation’s workshop in hockey development officers and consultants in Singapore in 2002, AHF’s Technical Officers course in KL, Malaysia in 2002, received an appreciation certificate from the President of Oman Hockey Federation for the contribution at the Junior Men’s AHF Cup held in Muscat in 2008 and served as a member of the Asian Hockey Federation’s Finance and Marketing Committee from 2010 to 2013.
He is an old boy of Wesley College and an All Island Justice of Peace.
