Ransilu Jayathilake a name synonymous in weight lifting brought glory to Sri Lanka when he won the gold medal in the 120 kgs category at the Singapore Invitation Power Lifting Championships held recently.
Ransilu lifted 260 kgs in Squat, 122.5 in Bench Press and 302.5 kgs in Dead Lift for a total of 685 kgs. His dead lift of 302.5 kgs is the highest by a Sri Lankan lifter and the first time to reach 300 plus kgs mark in Sri Lanka.
Ransilu is the first person to lift 300 kgs in Sri Lankan weightlifting competition in 2011.
Jayathilake has so far won more than 24 international medals in weightlifting and power lifting including Commonwealth Youth Gold (first Sri Lankan to win gold in this games), world junior Power lifting silver and many medals.
He is employed at Commercial Credit as an executive. He is also the strength and conditioning coach for Science College rugby team.
