The government’s overall expenditure for 2016 has been estimated at Rs.3138 billion while the estimated revenue is Rs.1789 billion inclusive of foreign grants. This was revealed at the weekly Cabinet press briefing held in Colombo today.

Estimates of revenue and expenditure have been prepared for the year 2016 as per the discussions held with relevant ministries, provincial councils and other parties, based on total resources that can be obtained in the financial year 2016, government’s policies and priorities.

The proposal made by Minister of Finance Ravi Karunanayake, to table the Appropriation Bill for the year 2016 in Parliament, was approved by Cabinet.
