Award winning dramatist Nalaka Swarnathilake, revealed his latest stage show at the Kalutara Town Hall recently. This event, titled ‘Pini Poda Wessak – Small Wonders on Stage’, was designed to showcase creative performances in the streams of drama, dancing and singing. It comprised two packed shows, a morning show for school-children and a public show in the evening, which was held under the patronage of veteran artiste Edward Jayakody and Charitha Priyadarshani Peiris. Samanthi Ahubudhu, Dr. Saman Weerawardana and principals of several leading Kalutara schools graced the occasion as well.
It featured songs from several famous Sri Lankan stage dramas and included a collection of songs written by Kalasuri Arisen Ahubudhu. The music direction for the show was done by veteran musician Lakshman Wijesekera. At a time when creations that can be jointly enjoyed by our children and adults are diminishing, the goal of this event was to present a stage show that rejuvenates this genre of entertainment.
