Graduate employees attached to state and provincial state services, despite having made payments to the treasury, are yet to receive the motorcycles that were promised to them last year.
Secretary of the Graduate Employees’ Union Chandana Suriyarachchi said that employees who made the payments of Rs.45,000 and Rs. 50,000 before December 30, 2014 are now faced with difficulties as many of them had obtained the money from bank loans. He added that these employees have been paying repayment installments and interest for such loans since October and November of last year. He also noted that most of these employees were women.
After sending several reminders to the relevant authorities, Suriyarachchi said that the Union had sent a letter to President Maithripala Sirisena regarding this issue with copies to Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayaka, Finance Ministry Secretary R.H.S. Samarathunga, and the Director General of the Budget Department.
