St. Benedict’s College Kotahena and St. Joseph’s Balika Kegalle emerged boys and girls champion teams respectively at the 46th Sir John Tarbat Junior Athletic Championship and sponsored by Ritzbury Chocolates held at the Public grounds in Anuradhapura recently. St. Benedict’s earned 78 points while St. Mary’s Chilaw was second with 63 points and Royal College finished third with 56 points. Many of the athletes from Royal College had to go back as they contacted a fever during their stay in Anuradhapura.

St. Joseph’s Balika did well to collect 64 points well ahead of second placed Ladies College with 39 points and Lyceum International, Wattala a close third with 37 points.

Balachandran Ananth of Hartley’s College Point Pedro was adjudged the best male athlete. Prasadi Lakshani of Holy Cross College Gampaha was the best female athlete.

Shemal Milinda of St. Mary’s College Chilaw and Sadeepa Henderson of Gateway College won the boys and girls 100 metres events respectively.

Over 6500 junior school athletes participated in this athletic festival.
