The Minuwangoda Magistrate was today informed that the DNA of the first two suspects who were arrested for the murder of five-year-old Seya Sadewmi did not match samples taken from the scene of the crime.
The suspects, a 17-year-old schoolboy and another individual were the first to be arrested in connection with the murder.
They were kept in remand custody until the DNA results were produced in court.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has requested the court to release the two individuals. Accordingly, the magistrate has ordered prisons officials to produce them in court in order to release them. The two are expected to be released shortly.
Meanwhile, a third suspect, Dunesh Priyashantha alias ‘Kondaya,’ who was arrested later, confessed to the crime, according to police. He is currently in remand custody.
