The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) in Colombo announced that residents in low lying areas and by roads in Galle and Matara districts should be cautious, as the water levels of Gin, Kalu and Nilwala rivers are rising. Transportation in some areas in Galle have already affected by rains last night.

Meanwhile, Meteorology Department by its mid-noon warning said that showers or thundershowers will develop over most parts of the island during the afternoon and night. “Thundershowers will develop at most parts of the island after 2.00pm, the statement said.

They also announced that showers or thundershowers will occur at Western, Southern and Sabaragamuwa provinces at times and heavy rain falls of over 100mm are also expected at some places. There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers. General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.
