Fazil Marija will lead the Sri Lankan national men’s Seven’s rugby team to the Asian Seven’s series second leg in Thailand on September 26 and 27.
“I’m happy to be back after recovering fully to lead the national side in Thailand, and really glad to see the return of experienced players such as Jason Dissanayaka, Dinusha Chathuranga and Nigel Ratwatte in to the side. These people have represented the country in many overseas tournaments before and have had lots of experience behind them. This time we have got a really good blend with both experience and talented young players. My main goal is to play as a team and give a good show enabling us to come to the cup finals and improve our ratings at least to secure the third place overall, so that the Sri Lankan rugby loving public will have at least something to cheer about,” said Marija in an exclusive interview with The Nation.
Skipper Marija could not participate in the first leg in China due to a back injury, where the Tuskers completely felt his absence both as captain and player.
CR & FC’s dashing forward Jason Dissanayake has been named in the squad along with experience Navy SC player Dinusha Chathuranga and Kandy SC’s Nigel Ratwatte.
