Ananda College and Nalanda College will clash in their 14th annual hockey encounter for the M.W. Karunananda Trophy on October 4 at the Astro turf hockey ground at Reid Avenue.

Ananda College is led by fifth year coloursman Nadun Rambukpotha who represented the Wester Hockey team in Malaysia, while the Nalanda side is captained by Chamara Madushan, who had the honour of representing the Sri Lankan under 18 team last year.

This year’s encounter should provide a close tussle for supremacy promising to evoke much spectator interest as both schools possess formidable sides.

The late M.W. Karunananda had the privilege of being principal of Ananda and Nalanda one time.

The past president of the Old Anandians hockey wing and past hockey player Manjula Wijayamanna will grace the occasion as the chief guest and Kithsiri Liyanagamage, principal of Ananda College and Ranjith Jayasundara, principal of Nalanda College will be the guests of honour.

This encounter was inaugurated in 1990 when the hockey coach of Ananda College and Old Anandian the late Leelananda Ittapana whose vision was to have close ties between the two leading institutions of Colombo.

The tally stands at Nalanda have won eight encounters to Ananda’s four with one ending in a draw.
