Devotees take part in the chariot festival held last year in Colombo

The annual Ratha Yathra the chariot festival will be held on September 27 (Sunday) in Kotahena.

According to the authorities of the Sri Sri Radhakrishna Temple, devotees will parade the streets in procession and follow the chariot which will carry the statues of deitiesa Jagannath, Baladev and Subhadra. The procession will begin at 8 am from the temple, which is situated at 188, New Chetty Street, Colombo 13.

The Ratha Yathra festival had originated in Puri, Orissa, India about 2,000 years ago.
Sri Sri Radhakrishna Temple President, Mahakarta Das told The Nation that more people will get the opportunity to see the three deities, and get their blessings when the chariot is pulled along the road.

This is the 17th year where Sri Lanka is conducting the Ratha Yathra festival.
