Sri Lanka and India last week agreed to hold an investors’ summit in Colombo before February next year that would bring together Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of companies from both countries, a statement from the Sri Lankan Prime Minister’s office on Thursday said.

The agreement was reached last week when Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe met with Indian Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in New Delhi on September 16.

Wickremesinghe, who was in India on a two-day official visit, had instructed Development Strategies and International Trade Minister Malik Samarawickrama to take the necessary steps to prepare to host the investors summit as agreed.

In addition, it was also decided to establish a special unit, operated jointly by the Indian Finance Ministry and the Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka, to monitor the state and private joint ventures of both countries.

The meeting also saw the participation of Foreign Minister, Mangala Samaraweera, Malik Samarawickrama, and Secretary to the Prime Minister, Saman Ekanayake.
