Local Government sports
Play Grounds Department of the Municipal Council headed by Kelum Shanthasiri and deputy head G.G. Dharmarathne together with the rest of the playground masters organized matches in Cricket, Table Tennis and football but they forgot volleyball, the sport that dominated all events. This was in connection with Local Government week.

The All Island Government services Athletics Championship was held at the Bogambara Stadium where over 200 men and women participated.

Police with 548 points were the champions, Prisons with 294 points took second place and Civil Defence Service were third with 233 points.

Hunnas Falls Hotel won the inter hotel six-a-side cricket tournament held at the Police grounds. Sixteen teams were seen in action. The champion team beat Earls Regency Hotel in the final.

Trinity College pocketed their first win of the cricket season by beating St. Aloysius College Gale by an innings at Asgiriya Stadium. St. Aloysius College 167 and 61 all out – Trinity College 254 for 8 declared.

St. Sylvester’s College who took a lead on the first innings, spoilt their chances of producing a result in their favour by occupying the crease for a long time during their second innings in their rain effected cricket encounter against Anuradhapura Central.

Table Tennis
Mahamaya Balika College and Vidyartha College were able to win the girls and boys Kandy District Open Table Tennis Championship, which was organized by Kingswood College at the Jagath Rajapakse International Table Tennis Stadium at Doluwa. Only sixty participants took part in various age groups.
