Inter University Students Federation which is the students’ body represents all the universities in the country has made five requests to the newly appointed four ministers on education. Accordingly, the IUSF needs all four ministers to look into their long time grievances soon.

They have asked the ministers to take urgent steps to increase the annual intake for the universities, stop the courses of “Pay and Study” in state universities, collecting money from parents and students in schools and other state education entities, increase the bursary up to Rs. 5,000 and make strong barricades or ban the private universities which offer the same courses of state universities.

IUSF President, Lahiru Weerasekara told The Nation that they have written to University Education Minister Laksman Kiriella, Higher Education Minister Mohan Lal Grero, Education Minister Akila VIraj Kariyawasam and State Education Minister V. Radhakrishanan.  The monthly Mahapola scholarship which was given to university students was increased to Rs.5000 from Rs.4000 by the mini-budget presented by the 100-Day government of Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
