The UK has announced a significant increase in the number of Chevening Scholars from Sri Lanka, the British High Commissioner, James Dauris, announced at a reception to mark the departure of this year’s Chevening Scholars ahead of their travel to study at prestigious UK universities.
The reception was attended by scholars, Chevening Alumni and other invited guests. The High Commissioner presented certificates to this year’s scholars to mark their selection for the Chevening programme.
The six successful Chevening Scholars from Sri Lanka for this year are Miss Myanthi Peiris, who will be reading for an MSC in Social Policy and Development at the London School of Economics, Vignaraja Sanjendra, who will be reading for an LLM in Human Rights Law at Queen Mary, University of London, Miss Bernadette Aponso, who will be reading for an MPhil in Finance and Economics at the University of Cambridge, Ms Erangi Merinnnage De Costa, who will be reading for a MSC in Finance and Investment at the University of Edinburgh, Meegodage Perera who will be reading for an MSC in Business Analytics at the University of Warwick and Miss Annemari Suranthi De Silva who will be reading for an MA in South Asian Studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies, London.
Chevening is the British Government’s most prestigious scholarship scheme for foreign post-graduate students. It aims to enable current and future leaders, decision makers and opinion formers to study in the UK and equip them to make a positive contribution to their own countries upon their return.
Looking ahead to the 2016/17 applications, Tom Soper, Chevening Officer for Sri Lanka and Maldives said: “The Chevening Scholarships application window for 2016/17 is now open.
