The Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA), part of which was controversially converted into a granary to store paddy by the Government, was briefly reconverted into an airport this evening when a SriLankan Airlines flight arriving from London was diverted there due to inclement weather prevailing over Colombo.

The aircraft, Flight UL 504, was carrying 244 passengers. The flight took off again for Bandaranike International Airport (BIA) at about 4.30pm.
