The Department of Meteorology has issued a severe weather advisory warning of a high possibility of strong winds over the island and neighboring sea areas.
Naval and fishing communities are requested to be vigilant as deep and shallow sea areas around the island will be very rough at times with strong southwesterly wind up to 70-80 kmp/h, the department added.
Showers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Southern provinces. Showers may extend to North western province too.
Heavy falls (about 100 mm) are also likely at some places.
Thundershowers may develop at a few places in the Eastern and Uva provinces after 4.00 pm.
There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers. General public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.
