The fifth annual ‘Walawa Super Cross 2015’ is to be flagged off by the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army Lieutenant General Krishantha de Silva at 9a.m. at the Sevanagala Gravel circuit on Sunday.
The meet organized by Army’s Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Regiment has been highly successful in the past four years.
The circuit maintained by the SLAEME Regiment is considered by all drivers and riders as one of the best tracks to race on. This is amply proved by the number of entries for this year’s event.
All leading drivers and riders have confirmed of their participation in respective events on this day. The drivers who are trying their best to come on top of the points table for the national championship can be seen in action on this track as the governing body for the sport made a decision to consider the points gained by them for the National Championship 2015.
The leader at the moment for the SL-GT Cars up to 3500cc Class which is also the fastest car event I Ashan Silva. The driver in this category hoping to pose a big threat to Ashan are experienced Irshaq Wahab, Pasindu Peiris and Missaka Naveen. The new addition to this event is Major General Ravi Mayadunne who has entered for the first time. He has performed well in Group J – Jeeps and Trucks events in past having recorded many victories.
In the Ford Laser/Mazda classes up to 1300cc, 1500cc and 1600cc young Kushan Peiris is the favourite but he has to face stiff competition from veteran Sajaad Zuhair, Damith Weerasinghe and Upulwan Serasinghe. Kushan following father Dhammika Peiris entered track as a school boy three years ago has an outstanding record under his belt.
Two wheel racing on this day too will be of interest for all spectators who are assured of witnessing some thrilling races. They get the opportunity of witnessing a great battle for supremacy in the main event Group MX – Racing.
