Kusal Mendis continued his fine form for Sri Lanka Development XI in the Moin-Ud-Dowla Gold Cup cricket tournament in Hyderabad scoring 47 and 58 but could not prevent his team from conceding first innings points to Oil and Natural Gas Company (ONGC) in their match played at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
Sri Lanka Development could make only 249 in their first innings of which Mendis and Lahiru Milantha made 47 apiece and Angelo Jayasinghe top scored with 75 off 128 balls.
ONGC in reply made 358 courtesy a fine knock of 143 off 202 balls from Manoj Srivastava. Fast bowler Vishwa Fernando was once against amongst the wickets claiming four for 99 while Amila Aponso picked up three wickets for 83.
Sri Lanka Development in their second innings made 149-8 with Mendis stroking a stroke-filled half-century. However they will not have a chance to qualify for the final because India Cements with their second win in as many matches have come through from their group.
With Group B winners already decided Thursday’s match between India Cements and Sri Lankan Development XI will be purely of academic interest.
