‘English Day 2015,’ an island-wide competition organized by John Keells Foundation, unveiled at the Bishop’s College Auditorium on August 24. The event brought together different faiths and races as children from across the country participated and enacted drama and poetry with creative visuals and imagery.
The event was organised by the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) wing of John Keells Group, in collaboration with Gateway Language Centre. Dr. Paula Bulancea, UNICEF Sri Lanka Deputy Representative was chief guest, while among other guests in attendance was Dr. Harsha Alles, Gateway Group Chairman.
‘English Day’ is part of John Keells
Foundation’s continuing drive to promote literacy in Sri Lankan communities, particularly in more rural areas. It saw children enacting both original and adapted works from literature and poetry, including an abrupt but heartfelt take on Pinocchio and a remarkable performance by students from the School for the Deaf in Ratmalana.
