Chairman of the Paddy Marketing Board (PMB), M.B. Dissanayake on Thursday (3) denied reports that the board had decided to pay Rs. 800,000 as rental for the usage of the warehouse of the Mattala airport.

Conflicting reports emerged on Wednesday with some reports indicating that the PMB had decided to pay Rs. 800,000 every month, while other reports said that the said amount would be paid every six months.

However, Dissanayake on Thursday said that no such decision had been arrived at. “We will decide on the amount after we discuss with the Evaluation Department,’ Dissanayake told The Nation Gain.

The first load of paddy was stored at the warehouse on Wednesday amidst protests by certain employees of the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA).

It was also reported that only one truck was able off load since the warehouse was unclean and become a habitat for pigeons since it was unused for a long period of time.
