Sri Lanka off-spinner Tharindu Kaushal who was reported for a suspect illegal bowling action at the end of the third Test against India at the SSC last Tuesday will leave for Chennai on September 13 to have his action tested at the Sri Ramachandra University which is an ICC accredited centre.
Kaushal will be accompanied by Sri Lanka Cricket’s Head of Coaching Jerome Jayaratne.
Kaushal, 22, has played six Tests and one ODI for Sri Lanka, having made his international debut in December 2014. He is considered the frontrunner to be Sri Lanka’s leading spinner once Rangana Herath retires. Kaushal took 13 wickets in the three Tests against India, averaging 38.15.
Kaushal is the second off-spinner from Sri Lanka to be reported within the last 16 months.
Sachitra Senanayake was reported in May last year during Sri Lanka’s tour of England and had his action modified to come within the permitted 15 degrees.
