President Maithripala Sirisena has agreed to let Opposition parties to decide on who should be appointed as Leader of the Opposition in the new Parliament.

National Freedom Front (NFF) Leader, Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa told the media that the President had agreed to this proposal when leaders of several political parties of the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) met the President this morning. President Sirisena is the chairman of the UPFA.
