Selectors will be kept busy when cricketers in the under-15 category go into action to display their talent and skills at the Prima Champions Cup U-15 Inter-district and inter-provincial cricket tournament that begins on 1st September.

Over 800 players from all parts of the country including North and East will form 32 teams to compete against each other. The best players from these district teams will be selected for the provincial teams. Ten Provincial teams will proceed to compete in the Provincial Championship. There will be five teams participating from the Northern Province representing Jaffna, Mannar, Vavuniya, Mulaitivu and Killinochchi.

Prima Group will be sponsoring this tournament for the ninth consecutive year.

“Having successfully conducted this tournament for eight consecutive years with tremendous results, we proudly continue with the ninth consecutive year of this effort to develop junior cricket with the renewal of our great partnership with SLC,” said Shun Tien Shing the General Manager of Prima Group.

The tournament will first be held on the inter-district basis from 1st to 10th September. The Inter-Provincial tournament will be held from 21st September to 1st October.

National cricketers such as Niroshan Dikwella and Binura Fernando had played in the Prima Champions Cup in past years. Kusal Mendis, Anuk Fernando, Sadeera Samarawickrama and Priyamal Perara who represent the under-19 national cricket team had played in this tournament held for the past nine years.

Who knows, there will be future national players emerging from the North and East from this tournament!
