The Special Crimes Investigation Unit of the Gampaha Police has commenced investigations into the discovery of 513 envelopes which were pasted with forged stamps amounting to over Rs.23,000. According to the police, the envelopes all contained the name of a prominent English language teaching academy in Nittambuwa.
Police Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara stated investigations commenced after a complaint was made to the Gampaha Special Crimes Investigation Unit by the Postmaster of the Nittambuwa post office regarding the discovery of 513 envelopes marked with three forged Rs.15 stamps each. The total value of the forged stamps amount to Rs.23,085 police said.
The identity of the individual who had brought the stock of envelopes to the post office had not been determined at the time this edition went to press. However, police noted the name of a prominent English language teaching academy in the area was on all the seized envelopes. Further investigations are ongoing.
