The Nation’s website and its web team led by the head of the web department Mithila Kumara were able to clinch the Merit Award at the 2015, a unique and innovative competition organized by the LK Domain Registry for the sixth consecutive year in order to recognize the best websites in Sri Lanka.

A panel of judges comprising of industry experts selected the winners of the competition while the participants of the competition were judged on both creativity and technical achievement. The website won a merit award under the Media Category at the event.

At the event, Mithila Kumara was also awarded a certificate of appreciation for web development.

The team, which includes two up-and- coming web designers, Thilina Pathum and Asanka Sameera, is led by Mithila Kumara, handles site development, web designing and also the content management system and web server of Mithila didn’t forget to mention that it was due to teamwork that this achievement was possible.mithila-kumara.jpg2

“Web development is much more than simply uploading web content as image placement, fonts, web appearance along with major technical details need to be looked at,” Mithila said adding that websites too need to be updated according to times.

Speaking regarding people who have helped the team in their journey to success Mithila expressed his gratitude to The Nation Editor in Chief Malinda Seneviratne. “He has supported us throughout giving us the freedom to develop the website while giving way to our expertise,” he said.

The trio also thanked The Nation staff and all those who have given the team their continuous support.

Mithila Kumara
Mithila Kumara, an alumnus of Moratuwa Maha Vidyalaya, gravitated towards graphic designing due to his interest in art from the young age. Having mastered graphic designing Mithila joined Rivira Media Corporation in 2007 as a layout and web designer, there after going on to complete a Diploma in Web Development at the Colombo University as well as studying PHP and Web development at the Sri Lanka Institute of Information and technology (SLIIT). According to Mithila, many other things regarding web development has been self taught thanks to the hands on experience received during his time at Rivira Media Corporation.


Thilina Pathumpathum
Thilina Pathum has been at Rivira Media Corporation since 2011 and while his main responsibility is web designing, he also plays a role in promoting on social media.  He’s also studying Web Engineering.

Asanka Sameera Deemanthasameera
Since joining Rivira Media Corporation in February this year, Asanka Sameera Dimantha has contributed greatly to The Nation website. He is also studying graphic designing and software engineering and manages to balance work and studies.
