President Maithripala Sirisena who was chief guest at the farewell Test of Kumar Sangakkara has offered the Sri Lanka cricketing icon the post of Sri Lanka High Commissioner in the United Kingdom.
The President offered the invitation during his speech at the presentation ceremony that took place at the P Sara Oval at the end of the second Test between Sri Lanka and India.
Sangakkara reacting to the President’s offer said, “It was quite a surprise. I have to go and think about it and really have a proper chat with His Excellency as well.
“I respect the President’s request. I need to talk more with him about it. I’m very inexperienced in such things. You need to have special knowledge for that post as well. I have to think about it and work out a reply to the offer.”
The High Commissioner’s post in the UK is currently vacant after Chris Nonis was removed by the former government.
