Shashi Weerawansa, wife of Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa, former Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal and Chairperson of the Eastern Provincial Council Ariyawathi Galapaththi were all summoned before the Police Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) today. Meanwhile, Parliamentarian Udaya Gammanpila was also summoned before the Special Investigations Unit at Police Headquarters to give a statement.

Police Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara said Shashi Weerawansa was summoned by the FCID to give a statement regarding an investigation into the assets belonging to her and Wimal Weerawansa.

Cabraal was summoned to record a statement on the hedging deal as well as an alleged financial fraud committed during the acquisition of a private firm by the Urban Development Authority (UDA).

Ariyawathi Galapaththi, who is the Chairperson of the Eastern Provincial Council as well as its Minister of Lands, Lands Development and Women’s Affairs, was summoned to record a statement regarding a complaint into non-payment of a Rs.75 million loan obtained from the Lankaputhra Development Bank in 2007.

Newly elected MP Udaya Gammanpila was summoned by the Special Investigations Unit to give a statement into a complaint made by an Australian national regarding breach of trust over shares of a private bank totaling 100,000 Australian Dollars.
