JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake says that the party is ready to discharge the duty of the Opposition. Addressing the media this morning in Battaramulla, he said that the party is satisfied with the result though it expects a bigger result than this.
JVP Leader also said that the election was free and fair compared to other election held in the country. “There were incidents, some were prevented. The Commissioner of Elections and his team and the Police gave a significant contribution to make this a free and fair,” he said.
Dissanayake also said “UNF have not secured an enough majority, but will begin fishing the MPs as usual. Money and portfolios will be the decisive materials in the game. Even Mahinda Rajapaksa had no two thirds majority at the beginning. But, He achieved it soon from the MPs who can be bought easily for money, portfolios or other perks.
He also said that the JVP contested the elections with a clear political vision strengthened by a comprehensive program to develop the country. According to him, JVP was not against a party or a person, but to present its vision and policy to the nation. He also thanked all who voted for them and supported them during the election directly and indirectly. “The most important thing was most people have gathered with us with an understanding of our policy. We will be discharging our duties in the Parliament becoming an example to all,” he added.
