The highest number of arrests made by the Police on an election day was reported today. CaFFE has reported that 35 arrested were made by the Police in 22 raids. According to Executive Director, CaFFE, Keerthi Tennekoon Police has acted independently when making the arrests.
Nine vehicles have also been confiscated by the Police he said adding that Police also conducted raids to prevent liquor being distributed in the Badulla, Matale, Puttalam and Nuwaraeliya areas. Commending the Police however Keerthi Tennekoon said in only one Police division the Police had failed to carry out their duty. “In Mannar cash was distributed by a candidate yesterday and today” he said adding that it is unfortunate the law was not carried out in this regard.
Police request all candidates and supporters to refrain from taking part in rallies during the post election period.
