Inter University Students Federation (IUSF) will hold massive protests if an impartial investigation is not carried out into the deaths of their two activists Janaka Bandara Ekanayake and Sisitha Priyankara de Silva in 2012. According to the convener of the IUSF Najith Indika the deaths of Janaka and Sisitha are similar to that of rugby player Wasim Thajudeen and therefore should be once again investigated as well.
“We have serious doubts into their deaths as there are many contradictions in the cases,” he said. According to him at the time bodies of the two students were moved by the Police before the magistrate could visit the site claiming that there were signs of life and they were therefore taken for treatment. “But the Police had gathered gunny bags from neighboring houses to cover the bodies according to the people” he said adding that Police now claim that the mobile phone belonged one of the students taken by them is missing.
“How can evidence go missing as such?” questioned Najith. According to him Police had even provided phone records where it stated no calls were recorded one week prior to their deaths even though phone records of others who had made and received calls from the students had detailed accounts of such calls. “This is clearly a cover-up by the Police” said Najith Indika.
