The Governor of the Central Bank Arjuna Mahendran and his son-in-law Arjun Aloysius were on Wednesday (August 12) issued notice to appear before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court on October 30. The notice and petition is in connection with the Treasury Bond controversy.

The petition, filed by United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) Provincial Councilor Renuka Perera, is to do with the auctioning of Treasury Bonds, which was allegedly misused to benefit Perpetual Treasuries, a company in which Aloysius is a major shareholder.

In addition, the plaintiff informed the Court that an issue of Treasury Bonds amounting to Rs.1 billion on or before February 27 this year, made without notifying the public, was inflated to Rs.10 billion subsequently, resulting in a loss of nearly Rs.1.4 billion to the government.
