GALLE: Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bat first on the opening day of the first Test against India at the Galle International Stadium.
Sri Lanka left out Upul Tharanga, Dushmantha Chameera, Vishwa Fernando and Dilruwan Perera from their squad of 15.
Left-arm spinner Rangana Herath returned to the team after being left out of the third Test against Pakistan.
India included all three spinners – Ravichandran Ashwin, Amit Mishra and Harbhajan Singh in their final 11 and went with two fast bowlers Ishant Sharma and Varun Aaron.
