Colombo District Court extended the injunction preventing the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Central Committee holding meetings without the party leader’s permission. The Court announced on Friday, August 07 that the enjoining order was extended preventing the convening of the SLFP Central Committee meetings till August 24.

The District Court issued the enjoining order against convening of the Central Committee, without a prior permission from the President Maithripala Sirisena in his capacity as the leader of the SLFP. SLFP Avissawella District Organizer Prasanna Solangaarachchi had gone before the courts on July 15 and initial order was given till July 29 and later it was extended to August 07.

Some media reports said that the SLFP Central Committee was to have an urgent meeting and get a resolution passed there to appoint Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Prime Ministerial candidate just before the election. However, party stalwarts just after the court order told the media that they had not convened such a meeting.
