Ben Stokes bowled England to victory on the third day of the fourth Test with six wickets at Trent Bridge.

NOTTINGHAM:  England defeated Australia by an innings and 78 runs on the third day of the fourth Test at Trent Bridge on Saturday to take an unbeatable 3-1 lead in the five-match series and so regain the Ashes.

Australia lost their final three wickets in 40 minutes’ play on Saturday, with fast bowler Mark Wood ending the match when he bowled Nathan Lyon as the number 11 tried to withdraw his bat.

Australia collapsed to just 60 all out in 111 balls after losing the toss on Thursday, the shortest completed first innings of any Test, with Stuart Broad taking eight for 15.

After England had made 391 for nine declared in reply featuring Joe Root’s 130, Australia were bowled out for 253 in their second innings with all-rounder Ben Stokes taking a Test-best six for 36.
