Campaign for Free and Fair Elections (CaFFE) has received a total of 1,073 complaints with regards to election law violations. It includes two murders following the shooting incident took place at a political campaign of Minister Ravi Karunanayake last Friday (31). They have also been recorded with 594 cases of illegal election propaganda, 439 cases of misuse of public property and using state employees for electioneering.

Since the announcement of the election, a total of 891 complaints were received by the People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL). Incidents with relation to acts of violence reported to them are 112 and 117 complaints were with regard to violations relating to abuse of state power, resources and misuse of state sector employees. PAFFREL has also received a total number of 36 complaints with regard to assaults and grievous assaults.

Meanwhile, the Police have arrested 399 persons for violating election laws. They have received 207 complaints with regard to election law violations and 107 persons were arrested from the complaints received to them.

Department of Elections has received 1,075 complaints so far. A total of 233 cases of destruction and sabotage of decorations and posters and cut-outs of political parties, 140 cases of illegal distribution of rations have been recorded to them. According to the department, 143 complaints of illegal appointments/promotions, 126 incidents of misuse of public property and 124 cases of using state officials to for election campaign purposes have also been reported.
