Siththi Nazeema's family at their new house

The family of Siththi Nazeema who died marking the first major act of violence of the General Election – 2015 was given a house this morning. The shooting incident which took place on last Friday; July 31 morning at Bloemendhal Road, Kotahena had taken two lives including Nazeema and another and the number of injured was 12.

Nazeema who was a mother of three was announced dead at the admission to the General Hospital and the second victim; B.N. Sampath, had succumbed to his injuries in hospital on Monday; August 03.

Video footages shown just after the death of Nazeema said that she had participated at the election campaign of Minister Ravi Karunanayake with a dream of receiving a house for her kids and the government had promised them a house for her family within seven days. Keeping the promise, Minister Karunanayake participated at a small function to hand over the new house for the family.

The victim’s family has been given a house at the Housing Scheme of Muwadora Uyana at Ferguson Road. Finance Ministry officials said that the ground floor house has been estimated at Rs. 7.5 million and the government has also taken steps to furnish the house with all necessary before it was handed this morning.

However, no arrests have been made so far over the killings.
