CCTV footage released by police showed the suspect leaving the lodging house with the traveling bag that the victim's body was found in.

The suspect sought by police in connection with the discovery of the body of a woman stuffed inside a traveling bag at Bastian Mawatha Bus Stand in Pettah has been arrested. Police said the  suspect was arrested by a team of officers from the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) at Kovilkulam in Mannar today.

The body of the murdered woman was discovered at the bus stand on July 29. After images of the victim were released to the media, police were able to identify her as a 34-year-old resident of Vadukkodai, Jaffna and were also able to uncover that she had been staying at a lodging house in Pettah for a week in the company of a male. CCTV recordings obtained from the premises had shown the suspect and led to him being identified.

Thereafter, the CCD had launched investigations to arrest the suspect and were able to track him down while he was working as a mason at a house in Kovilkulam, Mannar.

The suspect, a 44-year-old father of three, had been having an affair with the victim, investigations have revealed.
