Former United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) Parliamentarian Lakshman Wasantha Perera, who was arrested in connection with an alleged abduction and assault on a supporter of a rival political party, has been remanded in custody till August 6 by the Matale Magistrate’s Court today.

Perera surrendered this morning to the Matale police.

Four other suspects who were earlier arrested in connection with the incident have been remanded in custody till August 12, when they are scheduled to be produced for an identification parade.
