The Nation was awarded the Merit Award in the Best Designed Newspaper category at the Journalism Awards for Excellence 2014 held at the Mount Lavinia Hotel on July 28 (Tuesday).

Head of The Nation’s Layout Department, Prasad Chandrasena accepted the award from Convener of the Free Media Movement, Seetha Ranjani.

The Nation’s sister newspaper ‘Rivira’ also won two Merit Awards at the Journalism Awards. Chamara Amarasooriya of Daily Rivira won a Merit Award under the Subramaniyam Chettiar Award for Social Reporting. Gamini Sarath Godakanda of Daily Rivira was also awarded a Merit Award in the Business and Financial Journalist of the Year category.

The Awards ceremony was organized jointly by the Editors’ Guild of Sri Lanka and the Sri Lanka Press Institute.
