Since its inception, Camp KREATIV (CK) has set out to be an intensive holiday program, covering multiple creative disciplines, and focusing on facilitating a positive experience which will ignite participants’ interests and encourage them to explore their passions in a deeper and more practical way.
A holiday initiative of Power of Play Pvt. LTD (a collective of professional artists who use arts for communication), Camp KREATIV had a successful debut last year. This year, more workshops and an outdoor camping experience in Othara, Sandalankawa have been added to make CK 2015 even more exciting and interactive for new and returning participants.
Comprehensive workshops in cartooning, cookery, craft, dance, drama, maritime history and photography will be facilitated by professionals who will impart practical knowledge in a non-competitive environment. From August 10-16, 2015, and open for age groups 4-6 years, 7-13 years and 13-19 years, the initial day camp segment will take place from 8.30am-5.30pm, 10 to 14 at Wonder Years Montessori House of Children at 17, Polhengoda Terrace, off Polhengoda Road, Colombo 5. The overnight family camping trip on August 15 to 16 will take place in a campsite in Othara, Sandalankawa.
Founder and Artistic Director of Power of Play, Sulochana Dissanayake will run the ‘Improvisation and puppetry’ workshop which will introduce participants to improvisation techniques, object, puppet and non-verbal theatre to develop skills to communicate dynamically with minimum resources.
Rehana Wettasinghe who will facilitate the craft and cookery segments, will work with children of four years and above, and also specializes in working with differently-able participants. For cookery, the workshops will be designed to instill confidence to create experiment and follow through to a yummy result, while the craft segment will focus on the use of textiles.
‘Learning to Move’ and ‘Feeling the body’ are the two dance workshops conducted by Dayani Abeysekera for four to six years and seven to 13 years respectively; while Nirosh Perera who will take children through ‘Cartooning – The weird and wonderful’ which hints at much excitement to come.
Ramla Wahab – Salman will take children through ‘Stories from the sea’, and ‘Art of Photography’ by Athula Ranaraja will teach participants how to handle a camera to achieve a good photograph, how to work with light, composition rules and other practical tips.
August 15 and 16 will be spent with Adventure Education – Sri Lanka, facilitated by Major Raajiv Wanigasekera (Rtd.), who will create a physically-engaging weekend for all ages, designed to reawaken the possibilities of the great outdoors in all participants; a fitting end to Camp Kreativ 2015.
