Last year’s Dialog Champions League winners Solid SC from Anuradhapura went down to up and coming Police team 3-4 in their opening game at Police Park in a thrilling game.
Solid SC got off to a solid start firing two goals within the first ten minutes of the game to take a firm lead. But the Law enforcers’ strikers Sanjaya Pradeep and A. Rasiah struck firmly to score before the half way mark making things difficult for the visiting team.
Sanjaya Pradeep who has returned to the squad after a long time played his best for the police team to give them a boost in the opening game.
Two minutes into the second session of play Solid SC had the luck to gain a goal through an own goal due to a mistake made by their opponents to come to equal terms, 3-3.
But it did not last long when policeman S. Sanjeewa found the target to score in the last minute which also sealed victory for the Policemen.
Colombo FC down Blue Star 2-0
The key game of the week between the FA Cup winner Colombo FC and its runners-up team Blue Star SC once again ended in favour of the Colombo team when they completely outplayed the boys from Kalutara to record a 2-nil win.
The first session was evenly contested and it ended in a nil all draw. Nigerian player Dmitri playing his best after lemons brought victory for the Colombo FC scoring a double in the 59th and 90th minutes.
