Rivira Media Corporation won three Merit Awards at the Journalism Awards for Excellence 2014 held at the Mount Lavinia Hotel yesterday.

The Nation won the Merit Award for Best Designed newspaper. Head of The Nation’s layout department, Prasad Chandrasena accepted the award from Convener of the Free Media Movement, Seetha Ranjani.

The Nation’s sister newspaper Rivira also won two Merit Awards at yesterday’s ceremony. Chamara Amarasooriya of Daily Rivira won a Merit Award under the Subramaniyam Chettiar Award for Social Reporting. Gamini Sarath Godakanda of Daily Rivira was also awarded a Merit Award for Business and Financial Journalist of the Year.

The Awards are organized jointly by the Editors’ Guild of Sri Lanka and the Sri Lanka Press Institute.
