The Sri Lanka Army said Military Police have launched a probe into an incident where three army personnel were taken into police custody along with a weapon at Mirihana.
Issuing a statement, the army stated that Army Headquarters had informed Military Police of the incident and a probe has been launched. The army stressed that if found guilty, the soldiers would be severely punished according to provisions in the Army Act.
Meanwhile, police stated that three army personnel in civvies had been arrested by Mirihana Police last night while traveling in a white colored van. A firearm that was in the possession of the suspects was also seized.
Preliminary investigations had revealed that the soldiers were attached to the personal security detail of a Major General.
