Central Province Athletic Championship was worked off at the Bogambara Stadium by the Central Province Department of Education, where over 4000 athletes were seen in action. A. Ratnayake MMV Walala pocketed both boys and girls championship. Earlier they were able to win the Senior John Tarbat Championship.

The boys got 294 points, Trinity got 236 points and Dharmaraja College were third with 154 points.

In the girls event A. Ratnayake MMV 415 points, Ambegamuwa Central l82 points and Mahamaya Girls College 134.

The Olympic flame was carried from Namini Oya Vidyalaya Wasgamuwa in Olympic style, which covered nearly fifty towns. On the first day thirteen meet records were broken.

The AGM of the Kandy District Hockey Association (KDHA) has not been held yet. This AGM should have been held by end of March the latest.

The President of the Sri Lanka Hockey Federation gives a big hand to the game, but sad to say Kandy is not getting any. They only like to take up coaching and go on tours.
A hockey match was played in Kandy after a long lapse of time. This was played between Army Electical and Mechanical team and the touring Imperials College from England. The Sri Lanka team comprised of men and women players and they won 1-nil. The goal was scored by S. Wellgahetenna.

Rugby Sevens:
Kandy SC started practices, under the guidance of former captain Saliva Kumara and Fazil Marija will lead the side for the inter club sevens which will take place end of this month. They will field one team, but may come out with two teams.
